MINDSET: Generosity Part 2— Discovering Your Currency

In Part 1 of our Generosity series, we explored the importance of Generosity. We introduced the concept of Relationship Bank—how deposits and withdrawals shape the trust in our connections. But many people still hesitate when it comes to generosity, thinking:

“I want to give… but what do I really have to offer?” The answer? More than you think.

Generosity Isn’t About Wealth. It’s About Relational Currency.

Everyone has relational currency—something valuable to offer in a relationship. It just may not look like what you expect. You might not have a Rolodex of referrals or a million-dollar budget, but generosity isn’t about status. It’s about showing up with what you do have—and offering it freely.

What Does Generosity Look Like?

Generosity can show up in many different forms. Sometimes it’s tangible, and other times, it’s just about being present in the right way. Here are just a few currencies you may be holding:

  • Time – Offering to listen, support, or simply be there
  • Encouragement – A sincere compliment, a kind message, or public praise
  • Connection – Making introductions or advocating for someone
  • Ideas – Sharing your insight or perspective to help solve a challenge
  • Reliability – Being the person who always shows up, follows through, and remembers the little things
  • Gratitude – Expressing appreciation in a way that feels personal and meaningful

You don’t need to be a giver of “things”. Be a giver of value. Your currency may be hidden in the everyday things you do without thinking—your ability to listen deeply, your creativity, your calm under pressure. That’s value.

CHALLENGE

Assess Your Currency

  • Read Currency Examples (above)
  • Take 2 minutes to jot down 5 forms of currency you posses.
  • Need Help? Ask yourself: What do people naturally come to me for? When have I made someone feel truly seen, supported, or empowered? What comes easily to me that might be valuable to someone else?

Final Thought: Generosity Builds Trust When It’s Real

True generosity is never about a return. It’s not tit-for-tat. When it’s authentic and grounded in who you are, generosity becomes magnetic. It draws people in, strengthens bonds, and builds the kind of trust that lasts. So the next time you wonder what you have to give, don’t overthink it. Start with who you are. Because who you are is already enough.
