Inspirational morning with Chess Master Danny Rensch

What an inspirational morning for BCA!

What a great speaker to kick off the first installment of BCA’s 2026 Speaker Series.

Danny’s journey, from chaos to champion, from isolation to global community-builder, reflects the very themes we value: identity, growth, purpose, and the courage to reinvent oneself. What a powerful tone he set for the new year: that our challenges don’t define us, but can be the foundation for our purpose; that strength can be built from vulnerability; and that strategy and creativity, whether on a chessboard or in life can guide us through uncertainty.

The morning featured lightning fast blitz chess, where members got to test their skills against Clearview Regional HS varsity champ Gavin Derr and trade quick challenges with instructors from The Knight Academy, adding an exciting, high-energy element to the event.

Key takeaways:

  • Life and challenges are like a chess game: The aim isn’t just to survive – it’s to advance into new territory, grow, and transform.
  • Different approaches to the game: some people react to life’s moments one move at a time, while others plan long-term strategies, anticipating obstacles and opportunities
  • Takeaway: No matter where you start, consistent effort, thoughtful moves, and the willingness to learn from setbacks can change your reality. Just like a pawn on a chessboard that has the ability to transform to a powerful force on the board, just by pushing through and getting to the other side.
