BCA June 2015 Charity Spotlight; Philabundance #Generosity #BCAProud @Philabundance

BCA welcomes our June Charity Spotlight, Philabundance, nominated by Bob Kane of First Niagara Bank. For 30 years, Philabundance has been driving hunger from our communities, serving more than 75,000 people a week in nine counties in PA and NJ. It serves those at risk of hunger, of which 23% are children and 16% are senior citizens, as well as other vulnerable populations, such as those with disabilities, and families slipping through the hunger safety net. Learn more about its programs and services in this video, Philabundance: More Than Just Food.

There are almost a million people in the Delaware Valley who face hunger every day. Their stories are as diverse as the nine counties served by Philabundance: working families hit hard by the recession, women and children, FFA-11-bseniors trying to make ends meet. The one thing they have in common is being part of a food system that desperately needs additional support. Astonishingly, more than a quarter of the food in the United States goes to waste each year. Within the Delaware Valley, Philabundance has experienced 24 percent more people coming to them for food compared to last year.phlb_servicemap the poverty line. It also doesn’t acknowledge the working poor who make too much to collect welfare, but are unable to make ends meet, in spite of being part of the workforce.
